Biography

Marshall’s Blueprint

Marshall Goldman, after graduation from the Sloan School at MIT, co- founded MDE Electric Company in 1973 with his father, Harry Goldman. Based in Silicon Valley, MDE Electric has completed projects in all phases of construction, from single-family homes to hospitals. Specializing in large, multi-family projects, MDE Electric Company has wired over 40,000 units in the Bay Area.

In 2004 Marshall opened MDE North, Inc, to focus on projects in San Francisco and its surrounding area. Since its incorporation, MDE North has mirrored the success of its sister company, MDE Electric. In 2006, he created a parent company, The Castine Group. The Castine Group provides organizational, administrative, and financial support to both contracting companies without interfering with their decision making. This new organization allowed continued expansion without sacrificing the advantages of local control. Marshall Goldman retired as President of the MDE companies several years ago but remains CEO and Chairman of the Castine Group. As a result of his success in developing leaders in his company, he was fortunate enough to have the time and energy to become a commercial jet pilot.

Marshall seeks to help other business owners take the step back from day to day operations while maintaining their company values and strategies that got then here in the first place.

Flying

How To Fly The Path To Success

A flight takes only a few hours, but a business can last a lifetime. However, the skills it takes to operate a business or an aircraft are very similar.

The first skill is planning. Planning a flight starts with setting your departure point and destination. The pilot must look at all of the variables along the way: weather, route, altitude, fuel, etc. Business is very similar. You assess where you are, what you want to accomplish and how to get there while avoiding the pitfalls along the way.

The second skill is lifelong learning. To pilot a plane, you need to continually refresh and improve your skills specific to your aircraft as well as your general knowledge of aviation. Likewise, in business, you need to continually update your knowledge in your specific industry and general management.

The third and most important skill is focus. Whether you are flying a difficult approach into an airport or negotiating a complicated business deal, the ability to focus on your goal, eliminating all distractions, creates success.

Let me help you apply these principles to your business. The purposefulness of flying, the lack of room for error if applied properly, will bring your company to a level of perfection above most others.
